Welcome

Belmont United Methodist Church is a community of Christ-followers growing in love of God and neighbor. This is what we at Belmont believe Christian discipleship is, what we are to be, and what Jesus meant when he sent his followers to “make disciples."

We believe every person is of sacred worth and created in God’s image. We commit to Jesus’ example of inclusive love, care, and intentional hospitality with persons of every race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, faith story, physical or mental ability, economic status, or political perspective. We respect our diversity of opinion and expressions of faith. Therefore, as God loves us, so let us love and serve in the name of Christ.

What To Expect

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your regular worship times?

We worship at 8:15 a.m. in the Chapel each Sunday morning, including the celebration of Holy Communion. Then, following our Sunday school hour (9:15-10:15 a.m.), we gather for worship in the Sanctuary at 10:30 a.m

At 10:30 a.m., worship is also held in the Community Center and this service is translated into Thai, Karen, and English primarily for refugees from Burma and Thailand. All are invited to participate in any of our services of worship.

If the church parking lot is full, where else can I park?

What is the best place to park near the church?

Parking is available around the church building and on the nearby streets during the week and on Sundays. We do have limited parking in the lot between our Community Center and main building (off of 20th Ave. So.). Also, on Sundays you may park at the Post Office and Village Cleaners on Acklen and across from the church. Many of our members park across 21st and use the pedestrian crosswalks in the area as well. Although parking can be challenging at times, most people find a space in near proximity to the church.  Handicap accessible spaces can be found in front of the church as well as in the lot between the Community Center and main building. Click here to see a diagram of other available parking around the church.

Is there a main entrance to your building?

On Sundays, most main doors to the buildings are open. During the week, our main entrance can be found off the parking lot between the Community Center and Main Building (turn onto 20th off of Acklen, then turn right into our small parking lot). The doors on Acklen Avenue are not unlocked during the week.

Is your building accessible?

Belmont UMC is committed to making our church a comfortable, accessible place for everyone. We continue to work toward complete accessibility and currently offer:

Wheelchair accessible restrooms
Entry ramps
Elevators to upper and lower floors
Assisted hearing devices
Large-print Bibles, hymnals, and worship bulletins
Handicap accessible parking spaces

For additional information, please contact Jefferson Furtado.

Do you have a nursery during worship and Sunday school?

We provide childcare on Sunday mornings beginning at 8:00 a.m. for children ages 6 weeks-two years.

Do you offer childcare during church events?

Yes, if you need childcare for a church sponsored event, happening at the church, contact our childcare coordinator, Linny Jessee at linny@belmontumc.org.

Do you have a Safe Sanctuary policy?

We have a Safe Sanctuary policy that assists us in creating and providing a safe environment for our children, youth, and vulnerable adults.

Are children welcome in worship?

Yes!  We want children to know from the earliest age possible that they are beloved children of God and an important part of the worshiping community.

How can I find a Sunday school class or small group to join?

How can I find out more about the United Methodist denomination and about the ministries of Belmont UMC?

Welcome to Belmont is a one-session Sunday gathering where visitors can meet staff and ask questions of interest. To find out when the next Welcome to Belmont will take place, contact Deborah Arnold or 615-383-0832, ext. 20. Another offering is Methodism 101, a four-session series about The United Methodist Church led by pastors and laity of Belmont. For more information and a schedule, also contact Deborah Arnold

How can I become a member of Belmont United Methodist Church?

Contact Jefferson Furtado to set an appointment regarding membership. If you have been baptized in another Christian denomination, it will not be necessary for you to be baptized again. We accept and believe in one baptism by water and the Spirit. Once you have had your questions answered and completed a New Member Form, we will select a time of worship when you wish to join and to be welcomed by the community.

What are the steps for having our child baptized, or for being baptized as a youth or adult?

Contact Rev. Ken Edwards to make an appointment regarding your interest in a baptism. Ken will gladly meet with you and take you through the steps of this holy sacrament.

Do you have to be a member to receive Holy Communion?

No. In the United Methodist Church, we believe in an open table for communion where all are welcome. We believe that the sacrament of Holy Communion is an act of God’s grace extended to everyone.

How can I set up a time to meet one of the pastors?

You may contact any of the pastoral staff by email or phone. Email addresses and biographic information can be found on our Staff web page.
